Volvo Penta IPS IMO III is a well-matched package, powered by the in-line 6-cylinder D13, a 12.8-liter common-rail diesel engine with a twin-entry turbo. Working together with the IPS30 pod, twin counter-rotating propellers, and the Electronic Vessel Control system, this package offers improved maneuverability, extended range, and reduced emissions. It’s designed to handle high back pressure and high-sulfur fuel. The SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) exhaust aftertreatment system is designed for an optimal fit. The SCR unit, which also functions as a silencer, reduces noise by 35-40 dBA. This engine meets IMO III exhaust emission standards, while maintaining consistent fuel consumption. Thanks to the SCR system, the engine power output remains unchanged.

Features may include

Manoeuvrability

Steerable pods provide enhanced slow-speed maneuverability and improved high-speed handling. Docking is simplified, even in confined spaces. The enhanced maneuverability also supports efficient driver response, which can improve safety on board.

Enhanced performance

This well-matched, integrated engine and pod system includes a twin-entry turbo and supercharger, providing enhanced performance and improved maneuverability throughout the operating range. By working in undisturbed water, the forward-facing propellers enhance the performance even further.

Comfort

The engine and pod system is designed to reduce noise and create a comfortable onboard environment. A combined rubber suspension and seal are used to absorb propulsion forces and vibrations. Exhaust fumes are directed through the pods and into the prop wash, contributing to improved onboard comfort.

Electronic Vessel Control

Volvo Penta Electronic Vessel Control integrates the engines, electronics, and a set of optional features, such as Joystick Docking, Dynamic Positioning System, Glass Cockpit, and more. The system includes built-in redundancy to ensure a backup system is available.

Durable and strong package

The engine is designed and built for strength, featuring a cast-iron cylinder block and cylinder head. Together, the engine and pod form a compact, durable, and efficient package that is designed for easy installation. This design contributes to high reliability and long-term durability.

Extended service life

A propulsion system from Volvo Penta is designed for easy maintenance. Our range of high-quality oil, lubrication, and coolant is designed to support uptime and maintain optimal performance over time. Accessories include a fuel pre-filter to help maintain engine condition.
