Volvo Penta D8 MG is available in two versions - 50 Hz, 1,500 rpm and 60 Hz, 1,800 rpm. In-line 6-cylinder, marine diesel genset using common-rail fuel injection, double overhead camshafts and a twin-entry turbo. Available in F and H class, H class data is shown in table below.

The Volvo Penta Genset system offers a comprehensive solution for a ship’s onboard power requirements. It comes with an engine, generator and monitoring system, all tested and ready for onboard installation. The engine and generators are type-approved by major classification societies. The genset can be delivered with full classification certificates and can be classified in F and H classes.

The engine’s durable design, featuring a ladder frame bolted to the engine block, provides high reliability. Its rigid in-line cylinder block, generously dimensioned crankshaft bearings, water-cooled exhaust manifold, and turbo contribute to reliable performance and strong power.

Designed to withstand high exhaust back pressure, this genset is optimized for installations that require additional third-party emission control equipment. And it features easily accessible service points.

The common-rail fuel system contributes to optimized fuel efficiency. The control unit monitors several parameters which contribute to reduced overall fuel consumption and emissions. The common-rail technology helps reduce vibrations and noise levels.

Together, the twin-entry turbo with pulse charging and the efficient speed control system provide optimized load-taking capability.
